A common problem I see on the Highlanders is the A/C control head. If you get one in that they tell you they have to bang on the dash to get it to work look at the ribbon connector inside the control head. What happens is the nut that hold the dial in place comes loose and as they twist the knob it also twists the ribbon connector.
Easy fix, ya just have to take the entire control head apart to do it. (Putting together a tech article on this very subject)

I did a heater core in an early 90's corvette a few months ago and discovered the same thing. Of course, this one wouldn't let the starter engage and all the dash lights were on. LOL talk about annoyed. Who would think that using the same exact plugs side by side was a good idea. Also had the same thing on a nissan altima we put an engine in. appears that they used the same plug for the crank sensor and cam sensor and it won't start when you have these reversed.

Same deal on a 2008 Passat Komfort, customer was told he needed an ac compressor, upon close inspection the ac compressor plug had been switched with the pressure sensor...

Wow ... what an awful design. Probably a $0.15 cost save at the plant but violates major design rules. I always have a couple paint pens handy for stupid stuff like this.
